A man was arrested early Saturday morning after crashing his car into the gates of Buckingham Palace in London, police in the capital said on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 2:33 GMT on Saturday morning, when
"a car hit the gates of Buckingham Palace"
, according to police.
“Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage.
He was taken to hospital
,” added Scotland Yard, specifying that there were no injuries and that the investigation was underway to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Several intrusion attempts in the past
Security around Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, is very tight, with armed police patrolling around the building located in the heart of the capital.
In the past, it has been the subject of several intrusion attempts.
Last November, a man who tried to break into the royal stables at the palace was fined.
And last May, a man was arrested after throwing rifle cartridges in the park, a few days before the coronation of Charles III.
Another incident, in the fall, a man was sentenced to 15 months in prison for having crashed his car into the gates which protect access to Downing Street, the secure street where the residence of the British Prime Minister is located.
