Unknown people have put up a pole full of street signs at Richard-Strauss-Platz in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Their demand: to rename these streets because their namesakes have a “critical history” - including even the fairytale king Ludwig and composer Richard Strauss himself.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen – You yourself call your act an “unannounced political sign campaign”.
They leave it unclear who they are, calling themselves an “unknown group” in a press release.
What you want?
The Nameless are seeking to rename streets in the local area that bear the names of people “with a critical history.”
There are exactly seven streets and two squares that are in focus.

The unknown people took down the street signs and left behind leaflets
To emphasize the demand, the perpetrators dismantled the street signs on the night of Thursday (March 7th) and placed them on a wooden pole, which was then attached to the roof of the makeshift tourist information center on Strauss-Platz.
There was also a banner with the question: “Do we want to go this route?” They also left leaflets about the people.
Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU) has little understanding for the actions of the activists who have targeted the following names: Ferdinand Barth, Fritz Müller, Paul von Hindenburg, Ludwig Thoma, King Ludwig II, Professor Joseph Wackerle, Walther Siegfried, Richard Strauss and Mohrenplatz.
“If these gentlemen are remotely interested in real investigation, they should know where to find me.”
The mayor has little understanding of action
Koch, who lives in Partenkirchen on Professor-Wackerle-Straße - Wackerle was also a good friend of her great-grandfather - welcomes any discussion on this topic, but wants “professional support, not pure activism.
We can’t just shoot in the dark.”
She particularly dislikes the anonymity behind which the perpetrators hide.
“That’s weak.”

The police were also involved in this matter.
She also ultimately removed the post with the original street signs yesterday.
“Securing evidence,” emphasizes Paul Klette, spokesman for the inspection in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Who is behind it?
“Probably the scene motivated by left-wing politics,” says the official.
In any case, an unknown person is currently being investigated for so-called damage to property that is harmful to the public.
An expert in state security took over the work.
For Koch, one fact is certain: “They don’t know anything about the history of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.” Otherwise they would know that Mohrenplatz is named after the former “Drei Mohren” hotel.
To lead King Ludwig II – “I can’t think of anything else”.
