Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Shocking moments in the center of Garmisch: Heavy smoke in the Peaches restaurant on Marienplatz led to a large-scale operation by emergency services on Saturday night (March 9th).
The approximately 100 guests who were still in the popular restaurant at the time had to be evacuated.
As the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police station reports, six people were slightly injured by inhaling smoke fumes.
There was material damage amounting to around 10,000 euros.
Employees suffer smoke inhalation
The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m.
According to the current state of the investigation, a previously unknown person set fire to a paper dispenser in a toilet, which led to the development of heavy smoke.
The rapid reaction of employees prevented the fire from spreading to the facility and the building.
They tried to put out the flames with fire extinguishers, some of them suffered smoke inhalation and had to be treated in the district hospital.

The Garmisch fire department was on site with a total of four fire engines and 50 emergency services.
The fire fighters quickly got the situation under control.
Three ambulances, an emergency ambulance and several police patrols were also on duty.
Criminal police are investigating
The criminal police are investigating arson.
For example, traces are evaluated and witnesses are interviewed.
