The government approved today (Sunday) in a telephone poll a decision makers' proposal to allocate NIS 25 million to the Jewish Identity Authority in the Prime Minister's Office, headed by Deputy Minister Avi Maoz (Noam). This, as part of the preparation for the passage of the amended war budget later this week to ensure Maoz's support for the budget. Before the war, the budget that was supposed to go to Maoz's office in 2024 was about NIS 165 million, and following the war, he announced that he would give up most of the budget and settle for the amount approved today.
The decision-makers' proposal details the allocation of funds to the Authority: 8 million shekels will be allocated to promote cohesion and mutual guarantee and strengthen the spirit of volunteerism, 6 million shekels for outreach and advertising, 2 million shekels for operations and salary expenses, 2 million shekels to strengthen the connection to Jerusalem, 1.5 million shekels for the establishment of a public inquiry center, 3 million shekels for activities on Jewish national identity in the Negev and one million shekels for the Begin Heritage Center.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid tweeted in response: "The government has now approved 25 million NIS for Avi Maoz's Ministry of Jewish Identity.
Not for evacuees, not for fighters, not for businesses that collapsed in the war.
The Ministry of Jewish Identity, a government that has lost its way."
