On video: Documentation of the sinkhole that opened in a private pool in Karemi Yosef, a young man was killed/documentation on social networks according to Section 27 A of the Creators Law, Niv Aharonson and firefighting
Natan Meler, the owner of the villa where the sinkhole opened in the pool that resulted in the death of Khalil Kimchi, was charged today (Sunday) with causing death by negligence.
In addition to this, the indictment attributes to him and his wife Rachel Meler, illegal use of the land.
The disaster occurred about a year and a half ago, when they rented out the villa in the Karmi Yosef settlement that they own for a pool party, during which a 13-meter-deep pit opened at the bottom, Kimchi was swept into it, and another person was injured.
According to the indictment, Meler built the pool in the villa in 1999, without building permits, while encroaching on nearby land.
In addition, he did not take into account the risks involved in building a pool on top of the type of soil in the area, which created cavities and caves inside it.
