The second round of the elections in the local authorities ended today (Friday), and the results began to arrive.
After counting 40% of the polling stations in Beit Shemesh, it emerged that Shmuel Greenberg, the candidate on behalf of the Torah Banner, received 58.7% of the votes.
Greenberg came in first place in the previous round, and has now gathered support from national politicians and those with an opinion in the ultra-orthodox community.
The second candidate for mayor, Aliza Bloch, won 41.3% of the votes.
In the city of Rehovot, meanwhile, there is a big advantage for Matan Dil, who has 68% of the votes compared to Zohar Blum, who has 32%.
This is after 100 polling stations out of 185 were counted.
Zohar Blum is supported by the Yesh Atid party and after the first round the candidate Yaniv Markovitch, who is supported by the parties Blue and White, Yisrael Beitenu and Avoda, also expressed support for him.
Dil, on the other hand, chose to run as an independent list that is not supported by any national party, but among the residents of the city there is currently a noisy discussion about Dil's political affiliation, and this is because many residents who hold liberal positions believe that due to his past, he is actually a distinct Likud activist who is hiding this because he Fears that this will weaken him politically in the upcoming elections and prevent residents who oppose the current government and hold liberal positions from voting for him.
