Twice the support is better: the second wall should secure the Kathi-Kobus-Steig

Highlights: Twice the support is better: the second wall should secure the Kathi-Kobus-Steig. A second wall is supposed to stabilize the first over a length of 40 meters. This would stabilize the small street to such an extent that vehicles weighing up to 30 tons could use the path again. The measure is expected to cost around 620,000 euros. The city council's building committee was supposed to decide whether to permanently secure the retaining wall. A motion on the rules of procedure by Richard Kugler did not find a majority.

Long, blue iron bars protrude from a retaining wall.

They should secure the Kathi-Kobus-Steig.

Now a second wall is supposed to provide additional security.

Wolfratshausen – The Kathi-Kobus-Steig is quite unique in the city of Wolfratshausen for several reasons.

On the one hand, the street in the mountain forest is the only one in the municipality that is named after a woman.

On the other hand, the “Steig” is the only “Steig” - and unlike most other streets in Wolfratshausen, neither garbage collectors, ambulances nor fire departments are allowed to drive along it.

That's why the Kobus-Steig has to be secured with great effort.

As passersby pass by, they marvel at the long blue iron bars that protrude from the retaining wall that currently secures the path.

At its most recent meeting, the city council's building committee was supposed to decide whether to permanently secure the retaining wall.

An expensive affair, as it turned out - and one that still needed to be talked about.

Immediate action taken due to cracks

An engineering firm from Wolfratshausen examined the problem, which had been latent for years, in more detail.

Because the retaining wall that runs along Beuerberger Strasse revealed cracks last year, the expert suggested immediate measures.

So measures were taken “as an urgent procedure to avert the impending danger” and to prevent damage to the adjacent buildings: The wall was secured with pegs.

Cost at the time: 180,000 euros.

Since then, the road has been closed to all cars weighing over two tons.

Investigations by engineering office

In addition to acute security measures, investigations were carried out.

The engineering office came to the conclusion that the wall needed to be additionally secured - with an additional retaining wall.

A second wall is supposed to stabilize the first over a length of 40 meters.

This would – as the city administration wrote in the draft resolution for the building committee – stabilize the small street to such an extent that vehicles weighing up to 30 tons could use the path again.

The measure is expected to cost around 620,000 euros.

No majority for second expert opinion

The committee voted 9-1 to secure the small street.

A motion on the rules of procedure by Richard Kugler did not find a majority.

The representative of the Wolfratshauser List had requested a second expert opinion - from a specialist office for such topics.

As administrative employee Thomas Wenig replied, the previous engineering office was one of those.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner added: “If we request a second opinion for every examination, it will be a major cost issue.” It won't get to that point: two council colleagues agreed with Kugler's idea - the application was rejected by a vote of 3:7.
