Among other things, the farmers' demonstrations were a big topic at the Rural Women's Day in Eberfing.

District

– “In the next 15 years, more than half of the farms will give up,” district farmer Christine Sulzenbacher quoted this forecast at the 2024 Rural Women’s Day in Eberfing: “Then food security in our country will be in danger.”

It is also unclear who will manage the areas and maintain the cultural landscape.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

Despite these gloomy prospects, Sulzenbacher was also able to take a positive look at the future when she welcomed the more than 100 guests at the “Gasthof zur Post”: “We farmers are standing up so that agriculture can continue to survive.” The planned cut in agricultural diesel compensation has led to this “that we take to the streets together” – together with representatives from other sectors.

The rallies and bonfires showed “that we stick together,” said Sulzenbacher, who is also a local farmer in her home village of Schwabsoien, referring to the nationwide protests of the past few weeks.

Praise for the tractor demonstrations

There was praise for the tractor demonstrations from a number of representatives of the numerous political and official celebrities who were asked at the rural women's meeting for the now obligatory interview (instead of greetings) by the district farmer and her deputy Maria Lidl from Penzberg.

When asked how they felt about the protests, Weilheim's second mayor Angelika Flock (CSU) said: “You were great.

Your actions were great – without sticking with you.” A praise that District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß (CSU) was happy to agree with.

Eberfing's mayor Georg Leis (CSU/non-party) said: "I hope that the message gets through." Unfortunately, it is currently the case that the municipalities in Berlin are hardly being heard.

Listen, find solutions together, approach each other – these were the appeals of the interviewees.

Deputy district administrator Wolfgang Taffertshofer (BfL) summed it up: “City and country hand in hand must be more important again.” Now the phase must begin where people start talking: “A clear perspective is needed for agriculture. “

Two young honorees from Rottenbuch

The future of agriculture was then honored in the form of two young women from Rottenbuch: Lisa Schauer and Elisabethsperre both completed their training as housekeepers - and also made their master's degree: in order to learn more and have better opportunities in their professional lives.

Sulzenbacher was pleased that there are still “young girls who are taking up the profession of housekeeper”.

A profession that fits perfectly with agriculture, as the two young women said.

In return they received flowers and – “Advertising is a must,” says Sulzenbacher – an umbrella and a bag with a reference to the Bavarian Farmers’ Association.

Lecture on the role of rural areas

After the annual review of excursions, activities and celebrations, the farmers' women were able to shop and listen to the rural women's choir before lunch at a market stall organized by the Wessobrunn and Unterhausen local associations.

In the afternoon, Bavaria's state farmer Christine Singer came to the post festival hall for a lecture on the role of rural areas in social cohesion.

After the recent meeting of farmers from the western Weilheim-Schongau district in Schwabbruck, rural women from the eastern region came together in Eberfing.

As in previous years, both events had an identical program.
