The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, revealed this Saturday night the
decree with which the Government annulled the increase
for officials of the Executive Branch.
He did so at the end of a day in which
Javier Milei
anticipated this measure in dialogue with
Clarín
and then maintained a strong disagreement with former president Cristina Kirchner.
The text that Adorni advanced on his social networks indicates, in its article 1, that “Decree No. 206 of February 28, 2024” was “repealed” and that
the measure takes effect “as of February 1, 2024.
”
That regulation to which reference was made, which bore the signatures of Milei, the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello, and the Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse;
It ignited controversy because it determined
an increase of almost 50%
in the salaries of Executive Branch officials.
The new decree also establishes that “the remunerations of the Higher Authorities of the Jurisdictions, Entities and Organizations of the national Executive Branch, including those included in Decree No. 838/94 and its amendments, are set in the regime of Decree No. "° 1716/92 and its complementary regulations and in Decree No. 140/07 and of officials with equivalent rank and hierarchy, in accordance with the amounts in force as of December 31, 2023."
Article 4, meanwhile, maintains that “the remuneration of the Higher Authorities of the Jurisdictions, Entities and Organizations of the National Executive Branch, including those included in Decree No. 838/94 and its amendments, in the regime of Decree No. ° 1716/92 and its complementary regulations and in decree No. 140/07, and of officials with equivalent rank and hierarchy, may not be established within the framework of the homologation of the Agreement Minutes that are celebrated as part of the collective bargaining of work for the National Public Administration, unless expressly provided otherwise and will be set independently.”
The decree was revealed by the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, on his social networks.
Finally, the Government empowered the Technical Advisory Commission on Salary Policy in the Public Sector “to dictate the explanatory and complementary regulations that would result in the application of this decree.”
The controversy in relation to the 48% increase in his salary and that of the Cabinet triggered questions from the opposition, but also from leaders allied to the Government who had asked deputies and senators to reverse the 30%.
Half an hour before the end of this Saturday, and almost simultaneously with Adorni's tweet, a statement from the President's Office also confirmed that "through Decree 235/2024, the regulations established by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner that linked the increases of national public administration workers to the salaries of civil servants".

“This measure was designed and executed with the objective of protecting the pockets of the caste,” the Government argued.
And he concluded: “The inherited situation is critical and the Argentines are making a heroic sacrifice.
It is time for politicians to pay the cost of the embezzlement they have caused.”
