This defeat left its mark.
Those responsible at SC Riessersee are trying to find explanations for the 1:10 disgrace in Hannover and the associated playoff exit.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Although SC Riessersee traveled to Hanover with two playoff defeats under their belt, one had the feeling that the ice hockey team was still optimistic about the future.
But in the cauldron at the Pferdeturm, the white and blue team achieved little in the first ten minutes, after which the league team fell apart with a 1:10 disgrace.
An attempt at an explanation by those responsible.
Even 36 hours later, Simon Mayr was still struggling for words.
“This is really very disappointing.
“It’s not really possible to put it into words,” said the captain on Sunday in a thick voice.
“We've really planned a lot, then it happens three times quickly - and you're 3-0 behind.” His coach Pat Cortina was able to provide a little more detail about why the team went down in game three.
There were enough chances to give the game a different twist at the beginning.
After nine minutes and a 0-1 deficit, the white and blue had a great opportunity to equalize in the power play.
“We had two or three good opportunities,” emphasizes Cortina.
But instead, a shot from Curtis Roach landed at the feet of a Hanoverian defender.
His release bounced off Mayr's skate perfectly into the path of Robin Palka, who had a clear path and didn't have to be asked twice when he was outnumbered.
Cortina describes what followed as an unequal boxing match.
“Every time we tried to get up, we were knocked down again.” Hannover were merciless, and Cortina’s men “could no longer keep up mentally and physically.
“That was just too much for this squad.”
From SC Riessersee: “The manner was not worthy of this club”
Because with the long-term injuries Uli Maurer, Alexander Höller and Lubor Dibelka, three key players were out.
In addition, there were Marlon Wolf, who didn't even get on the bus to Hanover with a facial injury, and the recently signed Marc Zajic (flu), two other players who limited the coach's freedom of action to a minimum.
Changes such as a goalkeeper change also fizzled out on Friday evening.
After the 7-0 defeat, Cortina called a timeout and reminded its players “that they are playing for this organization and the fans.”
The long-suffering fans probably lost their fun in ice hockey after this incident.
But for office manager Sebastian Ziener it is impossible to simply move on to the agenda.
“I haven't really gotten over it yet.” Because while the elimination itself isn't a drama, it's all about how.
“In the end it is simply unacceptable, a bit shameful for our fans.” The performance in game three in particular was not good enough in the anniversary season.
“The manner was not worthy of this club.” It lacked a leader to show the way to his shipwrecked teammates.
“In a situation like this you need someone who can stand up and turn things around.” The young team came under pressure and were lucky at 1:10 that Hannover took pity after the second third.
Captain Mayr summed it up.
“Respect to the fans who made the long journey twice, even though we delivered a disappointing performance.” (
