A 54-year-old man who is said to have killed a man with a knife on Sunday was shot by police in Ulm.
The police, state criminal investigation office and public prosecutor's office announced this together in the evening.
Accordingly, an emergency call was previously received about a suspected homicide.
The first police patrol then encountered a man covered in blood who was holding a knife and attacked the officers.

The 54-year-old was injured and taken to a hospital, where he was operated on that evening.
According to initial findings, the man had previously attacked several people with a knife, it said.
A 58-year-old died from his injuries.
Two women were taken to hospital with injuries, some of them serious.
The background to the crime was initially unclear; the police investigation was ongoing.
The State Criminal Police Office, in coordination with the public prosecutor's office, investigated the use of firearms by the police officers.
