After trees were felled at Schwaighof and other properties, the Tegernsee Valley Protection Association (SGT) contacted the city and the district office.

Tegernsee

– the deadline was March 1st.

From this date onwards, trees may no longer be felled.

The sawing will be even more intense until the end of February.

Angela Brogsitter-Finck, chairwoman of the Tegernsee Valley Protection Association (SGT), is currently very concerned about the result of the large-scale deforestation.

“It’s so shocking,” she says.

She has been receiving accusatory emails with photos of fresh tree stumps for a good three weeks.

Brogsitter investigates every case, contacts municipalities and district offices, and informs the press.

She was particularly outraged recently by the felling of several trees at the Schwaighofanlage in Tegernsee.

The residents of the nearby retirement home would have loved to sit in their shade, says Brogsitter-Finck.

Like many others, she was horrified by the city's actions.

Mayor: “Trees were no longer safe”

Tegernsee's mayor Johannes Hagn, on the other hand, makes it clear: "The trees were no longer safe and had to be removed." The city is not doing this because it likes to cut down ("What motive should we have?"), but to protect the people who live there linger.

Of course, adequate replanting will be done, announces Hagn.

The fact that so many trees on the lake shore cannot be saved is largely due to beaver browsing.

It is also difficult to protect the trunks from this: “Some of the beavers even climb up the wire mesh.” The question arises as to whether it would not be more beneficial for nature conservation to reduce the abundant beaver population by removing them.

A second felling operation in Tegernsee not only concerns the SGT, but was also a topic in the city council.

Marcus Staudacher (Greens) denounced deforestation on a private lake property on Schwaighofstrasse.

There is an old house there, a new building has been approved.

The associated open space plan provides for the preservation of individual trees.

“But they cleared the entire property,” explained Staudacher, showing photos of the bare bank.

Could the city intervene here?

In fact, the lower nature conservation authority at the district office is already dealing with the case.

“It can be assumed that actions were taken contrary to the requirements of the building permit and the open space plan,” says district office spokeswoman Sabine Kirchmair.

The office is in contact with the city and further action will soon be clarified at an on-site visit.

Brogsitter-Finck suspects a better outlook is the motive

The nature conservation authority is now also busy with a deforestation campaign in Bad Wiessee, on Max-Obermayr-Weg.

In this case, Brogsitter-Finck suspects that the saws were intended to give a homeowner a better view: “You can really see the path.” A 150-year-old maple tree and several other trees in a protected hill would have had to make way for this.

According to the district office, there was a permit for the removal of the maple tree: “It was very badly affected by ash shoot dieback.” But not for the other trees in the protected Hag that were also removed.

The Lower Nature Conservation Authority has already requested replanting.

The central fines office must decide on a penalty.
