The next nationwide warning day in Bavaria will be in mid-March.
The ministry provides information about this - and explains how warnings will be issued again soon.
Munich - It's almost that time again and the sirens are shrilling in Bavaria: the next nationwide warning day in the Free State is coming up.
“The nationwide uniform test alarm will take place in Bavaria on March 14, 2024,” writes the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Integration on its website.
Warning day in Bavaria: It gets particularly loud in “at risk” areas
According to the ministry, there is something special about the upcoming warning day.
There will be additional warning signals for the population in areas that, according to the announcement, are “particularly at risk” or “in the vicinity of facilities with particular risk potential”.
Warnings are given “not only with radio announcements, but also with sirens and loudspeaker vehicles”.

Among other things, this involves warning citizens about the release of pollutants, for example.
So if you're wondering whether you live near facilities with a particular risk potential - you'll get the answer on March 14th.
Because a list of where and how warnings are given was not published in advance.

The exact process says:
At around 11:00 a.m., the Ministry of the Interior will centrally trigger the warning devices and warning multipliers connected to the Modular Warning System (MoWaS) for the whole of Bavaria (this includes in particular Cell Broadcast and the warning apps NINA, KATWARN and BIWAPP).
At the same time, municipal authorities can manually trigger warning devices within their area of responsibility that are not directly connected to MoWaS (e.g. loudspeaker announcements, administrative websites, authority hotlines, sirens).

So if the sirens suddenly start wailing at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14th and it sounds like the world is coming to an end - don't worry, it's all just a test.
What becomes more exciting is the question of whether everything works as it should - because there were already numerous problems on last year's warning day.
