240 missions with 5,715 hours of service: The Penzberg fire department had more to do than usual in 2023. The main reason was the many storms.
Penzberg - At the most recent general meeting of the Penzberg fire department, the balance sheet for 2023 was presented. In the end, the volunteers went on 240 missions - 5,715 hours of public service were recorded.
This significantly exceeded the previous year's figure.
The Penzberg fire department went out on missions a total of 240 times in 2023 - this was the balance given by Commander Simone Abt
Commander Simone Abt looked back on the past year.
A year that was tough for the volunteers.
Because 2023 was marked by storms.
Storm damage in particular had an “extreme” impact on the statistics, as Abt summarizes.
Above all, the August hail, the Penzbergers helped in the hard-hit Benediktbeuern.
Alarm after storms, hail, snow and heavy rain: “It’s getting more and more,” said the commander, not very optimistic about the future.

Because of the storms alone, 40 major operations were documented by the Penzberg fire department - actually there were significantly more
40 large-scale operations alone were documented after storms, and 60 to 70 alarms were “not written at all”.
This would have been significantly more than the 240 total missions listed by Abt (2022: 146 missions).
A number that is already at the limit, as district fire inspector Uwe Wieland warned: “Anything that goes beyond 200 is something volunteer fire departments have a hard time with.” With exercises, courses and training, the active members worked a total of 10,787 hours last year ( 2022: 7505) voluntary service.
The Penzberg fire department also presented itself with other fire departments on the local town square at the “Long Night” of volunteers in 2023.

The fire station was also a topic at the meeting of the Penzberg fire department
Before Bastian Bergel was elected as the new deputy commander, Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) thanked the volunteers for their commitment.
He also addressed the problem child “fire station”: Korpan reminds us of the report that was commissioned, the results of which should be available by the middle of the year.
“Something is happening,” emphasized Korpan and made it clear: “We stand with the fire department.” Later, commander Simone Abt described the discussion about a rescue center on Zibetholzweg as a “positive signal.”

119 active, 323 members
In her report, Abt took stock of what happened in the Penzberg fire department in 2023. The 240 operations were divided into burnt food on the stove (“the classic”), 67 fire incidents, 38 alarms from fire alarm systems (“typical thing”) and the 109 technical assistance calls and, above all, the deployment due to storm damage (“will become more and more”).
To ensure that the armed forces with their 119 active members - according to board member Joachim Kollmuß, the club has a total of 323 members - practice diligently: there were 3,360 hours of practice in 2023.
Car fire alarms are causing increasing problems
District fire inspector Uwe Wielend addressed a new problem: the Penzbergers alone had to go out nine times in 2023 because of an alarm from a car fire alarm system (E-Call) - the number and, above all, false alarms would increase.
“There are a lot of fire departments on the road without it being necessary.”
