In the future, members of the Bavarian state parliament will face fines of up to 4,000 euros if they do not behave.

This is mainly due to the AfD.

Munich - The leadership of the state parliament has agreed to tighten the penalties if members of parliament do not adhere to the rules.

According to information from the Münchner Merkur, a fine of up to 2,000 euros and, in the event of a repeat offense, of up to 4,000 euros are to be introduced.

State Parliament President Ilse Aigner (CSU) wants to present the plans on Wednesday.

Shortly after the election, Aigner announced a tougher crackdown.

There is now a corresponding draft amendment to the Parliamentary Act.

Background: In the last electoral period there were 26 complaints against members of parliament - the vast majority against AfD members.

For comparison: Before the AfD came in, there had been no reprimand at all for 25 years, despite heated debates.

MPs can also be expelled from the room

The previous regulations have proven to be “insufficiently effective and differentiated,” according to the justification for the changes.

“In the event of a particularly serious breach of order or the dignity of the state parliament, the presidium can expel a member of the state parliament from the hall for the duration of the session,” it also says.

The general assembly can then, on the recommendation of the presidium, “exclude members of parliament from participating in a maximum of ten further meetings of the general assembly and meetings of other committees of the state parliament”.

Penalties of the same amount for violations of the house rules have also been added.

There had been repeated complaints about misconduct from guests.

But this is only made possible by members of the state parliament, they say.

You should now be liable for it.
