It's not that long until the Olchinger Volksfest: It's now clear which beer will be served after the Maisach brewery goes bankrupt.

- The rumor mill had been bubbling for a while.
As the city officially confirmed on Monday, the Kaltenberg brewery will be brought on board.
“It is regrettable that cooperation with the Maisach brewery was not possible this year due to the special circumstances,” said Mayor Andreas Magg.
“It was important for the city to eliminate any legal risk.
We are pleased that the König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg is serving a well-known and traditional regional beer and that the Olchinger Braumanufaktur is once again serving a tried and tested local beer.”

Folk festival speaker Andreas Hörl adds: “The König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg has already proven at several folk festivals in the district and beyond, but also at other major events, that it provides excellent service and the best quality.”
The city of Olching has implemented a change in beer delivery for the 2024 folk festival by means of a city council resolution.
Instead of the previous model, which stipulated that the city itself selects the breweries and binds the festival host to them, this year the festival host was given the freedom to select the brewery for the festival tent himself and to conclude the necessary contracts directly.
This became necessary because there was no longer a beer delivery contract for 2024 and the Maisach brewery had filed for bankruptcy.
The contracts with OBM and the Maisach brewery had already expired at the end of 2023.
A series of discussions took place
An extension was temporarily discussed between the city and the breweries as a replacement for the two canceled Corona years.
However, due to the surprising insolvency of the Maisach brewery, the city was forced to examine possible alternatives to ensure that the festival host, beer garden and other free drinking areas were reliably supplied with beer and drinks.
A number of discussions subsequently took place, particularly with representatives of the Maisach brewery and its insolvency administrator.
Particularly due to the enormous time pressure that results from the necessary lead time for a major event like the Olchinger Volksfest, the city council ultimately decided to commission the festival landlord to select the beer and other drinks for the festival tent for 2024.
Signing a contract with an insolvent brewery whose future is still unclear and which may be sold to another company would have resulted in various risks and uncertainties, including legal ones, which the city ultimately could not bear.

The brewery is not only responsible for serving beer at the festival, but also for technology and infrastructure
It should be noted that the breweries' contractual obligations are not limited to the drinks, but also include the technology and infrastructure necessary for serving drinks.
The festival landlord was therefore free to choose the contractual partner in 2024.
After careful examination, Festzeltbetrieb Widmann GmbH decided on the equally popular and traditional regional brand König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg.
This so-called “host model” initially only applies to the year 2024.
Therefore, the Maisach brewery could also apply for the Olchinger Volksfest again in the future if it were to continue operating.
The city council will decide on this in the course of 2024 or will carry out the usual tenders.
The Olchinger Braumanufaktur will be offering its local beer specialties for the beer garden at the Fischbraterei Groß and the other free drinking areas at the upcoming folk festival.
