He also wants progress on his territory.

The president of the Brittany region Loïg Chesnais-Girard announced this Tuesday, the day after an agreement on the autonomy of Corsica, that he asked Gérald Darmanin in particular to “recognize the diversity of territories within a common framework ".

I welcome the agreement between Corsican elected officials and the Government, for more autonomy for the island.

This cannot be the only progress for our country which is dying of its centralism.

I bring to the debate a proposal adapted to all territories marked by a strong specificity.

“The Republic, one and indivisible, is powerful if its multiple identities are respected.

A united France will be all the more united as it recognizes the territories that make it up and their specificities.

Decentralization is enshrined in the Constitution.

And if we deeply respect the expectations of Corsica, this cannot constitute the only progress for our country which, to my great regret, is dying of its centralism,” Loïg Chesnais-Girard wrote in a press release.

“A Republican proposal”

The government and Corsican elected officials reached agreement during the night of Monday to Tuesday on a draft “constitutional writing” providing for “the recognition of a status of autonomy” of the island “within the Republic” .

The president of the Brittany region made public two letters, dated March 4, addressed to the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher.

Dear @BrunoRetaileau,

Do not use Brittany to type Corsica.

The proposal I am making, supported by a working group with @lesRepublicains de la @regionbretagne, is a Republican proposal for all territories with strong specificity.

He expresses “an ambitious proposal which is nevertheless likely to achieve consensus because it is universal”.

“It is not a Breton proposal for Brittany, it is a Republican proposal for all the territories of the Republic marked by a strong specificity,” he continues.

For Loïg Chesnais-Girard, it is “a path which would make it possible to recognize the diversity of territories within an updated common framework, reinforced in its uniqueness”.

His proposal is based on that “issued in particular by the former Minister of Justice Jean-Jacques Urvoas” to rewrite article 73 of the Constitution, which currently concerns the overseas departments and regions to modify it. in these terms: “The territorial authorities of the Republic can have a status which takes into account the specific interests of each of them within the Republic and their particular characteristics and constraints.

(…) The organic law determines for those of these communities which are endowed with autonomy, the conditions in which judicial control is organized over the powers assumed in the field of law.”

“It is a simple proposal, attached as much to effectiveness as to symbol, which potentially meets the expectations of all proactive territories without favoring any specifically, which, as we know, would be read as the beginning of a weakening of the unity of the Republic,” also believes the Breton elected official.
