Ilias Akoudad, 22, was sentenced on March 1 to 30 years in prison by the Vaucluse Assize Court, with a security period of 20 years, for having killed brigadier Éric Masson in 2021 in Avignon in broad daylight, by shooting him while carrying out a street drug surveillance operation with his teammate.
The two police officers were in civilian clothes.
Alias Akoudad exceeded the legal deadline to appeal
After having long denied being the perpetrator of the shooting, he ended up confessing before the Assize Court, while claiming not to have understood that it was police officers.
The court, however, retained the aggravating circumstance of murder of a person holding public authority.
The prosecution had asked for life imprisonment with a security period of 22 years.
Ilias Akoudad did not appeal within the legal deadline of 10 days, one of his lawyers, Me Frank Berton, told AFP.
It was not immediately possible to contact the prosecution to confirm that he had not appealed either, but the lawyer for several civil parties told AFP that they had received information from the registry that no no appeal was filed against the conviction.
