He kept his bet by completing his race in 5 days and 22 hours 39 minutes.
Thierry Corbarieu, trail runner from Lagrâce-Dieu (Haute-Garonne), won the Montane Lapland Artic on March 9, 2024, a 500 km non-stop free-pace running race which took place in Swedish Lapland.
The start and finish of the race took place in the town of Överkalix.
This ultra-endurance event on the trails of Lapland crossed wild terrain and had a total elevation gain of at least 3,000 meters through forests, lakes and rivers.
The participants had to face very hot temperatures for the season (between 0° and -15°), further complicating the race course.
Educational project
The Montane Lapland Artic was the last race before the next challenge that Thierry Corbarieu is undertaking, this time with his youngest son, Yan, 19 years old, with whom he is leaving in November 2024 to tour the world.
Father and son will travel 25,000 km by bike and row across the Atlantic in a boat that they have had approved.
“I had to do this world tour alone but my son wanted to take part in this eight-month journey,” says Thierry Corbarieu.
We will spend between 50 to 70 days crossing the Atlantic and 40 days traveling 6,000 km in the United States.
During the trip, we will carry out an educational project that we will share with the schools of Lagrâce-Dieu.”
Their departure is planned from the Place du Capitole in Toulouse where they will reach Spain by bike to Cadiz to take a ferry to the Canary Islands.
From the island of El Hierro, they will board a rowing boat, a rowing boat of the seas, bound for Guadeloupe.
Then father and son will ride their bikes between Miami and Seattle.
They will fly to Mongolia and the city of Ulaanbaatar from where they will leave to complete the last 13,000 kilometers by bike and return to Toulouse.
They will cross China, the steppes of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia and Italy.
