A lot still remains vague: But there will be a Bolzano market again in August 2026 in Mittenwald's Obermarkt.

A board of trustees is to be introduced at the Bolzano market in 2026, and the cup deposit system is also clear.
The overall concept is becoming more and more multifaceted.
But there is still a need for those responsible to organize the market.
Mittenwald - According to Christoph Szonn, around 25 people are now working on the new concept for the Bolzano Market 2026. Every 14 days, the trio from middlewood is now holding a kind of regulars' meeting where interested parties can contribute ideas and criticism and receive the latest information.
They cannot yet answer the most important question: Who will be responsible for what will happen in just over two years?
The board of trustees is not an organizing committee, explained Christoph Szonn.
“There are suitable people, but so far no one has shouted here,” said Mayor Enrico Corongiu (SPD).
Time would run out
So it's no wonder that some local councils are making too slow progress.
“I now view the time factor critically,” said Christl Veit (CSU).
Cups still have to be ordered – once the overall concept is in place.
For 2026, you will mainly have to rely on the stock that was still stored at clubs and inns from 2017, says Szonn.
There is still a lot to prepare: the concepts for security and visitor management, the authenticity check, the supporting program.
If there is no organizer and no one takes part, “the Bolzano market is dead,” explained Deputy Mayor Georg Seitz (FW).
CSU local council complains that there is no need to reinvent the wheel
The local council has already approved at least three points for the concept by a majority - that there is a board of trustees, that the cup is considered an "entrance ticket" and that historical knowledge about the Bolzano market is imparted in the supporting program (see report).
Only Kurt Stransky (CSU) voted against it.
“The Bolzano market has been an excellent event so far,” he emphasized.
For him, adjustments to the existing concept would have been completely sufficient.
There is no need to reinvent the wheel, says the CSU local council.
“We don’t want to reinvent the wheel,” emphasizes Szonn.
“But create a sustainable concept.” Corongiu replies that “simply a new security concept is by no means enough.”
He is annoyed that some people are now “sliding in between” even though they have already made a good deal of progress in the conception phase.
Veit also shows little understanding for the ricochet: “We have to stand behind our majority decision,” she says.
And that means making the Bolzano market possible in 2026 – before time runs out.
