Hamburg - Bereavement in Matthieu Carrière's family: His sister Mareike died on Monday night as a result of cancer.
Mareike Carrière succumbed to complications from cancer on Monday night.
She died surrounded by her family in Hamburg, a management spokeswoman in the Hanseatic city told the dpa news agency.
Carrière became known, among other things, for the ARD series “Großstadtrevier”.
The actress was 59 years old.
“Mareike Carrière never allowed herself to be fixed on specific types when it came to acting.
Her great strength was her versatility - from series star to character actress.
Television is losing an impressive personality.
Our condolences go out to her family,” said NDR director Lutz Marmor on Tuesday.
Carrière was born in Hanover and grew up in Lübeck.
As a child she was already on stage with her brothers Mathieu and Till.
At the age of 16 she began her training at the Lübeck drama school.
She then studied French and English at the Sorbonne in Paris and obtained a diploma as a translator.
His first stage engagements followed in Lübeck, Paris and Berlin.
In the series “Großstadtrevier” in 1986, Mareike Carrière became known to an audience of millions as the first patrol police officer on German television.
To do this, she took karate and shooting lessons and also sat in on the police force.
In 1993 she left the successful series after 62 episodes.
Afterwards, the North German star appeared in front of the camera in numerous productions for NDR and ARD, most recently in Lübeck in 2012 for the early evening series “Heiter bis deadly - Morden im Norden”.
Mareike Carrière: Stages in her career
In the series “Praxis Bülowbogen” (1986-1995) she appeared as a doctor alongside Günter Pfitzmann.
In the series “School by the Lake” (1996-1999), the actress portrayed an unorthodox and popular teacher. Mareike Carrière also returned to the stage again and again, as she was in “The 7 Deadly Sins”, a play by Andreas Schmidt and Luci van Org, seen in the Theater am Kurfürstendamm in 2007 and in the comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus in Hamburg in 2009.
From 1981 to 1994 she was married to the film producer Joachim von Vietinghoff.
In 1993 she moved to Hamburg and married the dentist Gerd Klement there in 1997.
Carrière was socially committed; among other things, she was a representative of UNICEF and supported the Hamburger Leuchtfeuer hospice.
