A construction project in the west of Weilheim is making waves.

The explosive thing: The building committee rejected the building application in mid-January (we reported), while the district office has since voted in favor.

The committee has now issued a ban on changes today and wants a new development plan.

Weilheim - The projects at Gartenstrasse 17 and Eichtweide 2 were rejected by the building committee in January.

It would not fit in structurally with the area; the degree of imperviousness of the properties is too high, as is the extent of the building's use.

Four (too high) residential units per building were planned.

The city's building department also rated the arrangement of the required garages/parking spaces as unsatisfactory.

Now the Weilheim-Schongau district office intervened with two letters dated February 29th.

The authority could not follow the city of Weilheim's argument when it came to incorporating it into the building plan.

According to the district office, the planned buildings would fit in well with the surrounding area.

The building committee reacted very angrily to this assessment during today's meeting.

“The city has planning sovereignty,” said Karl-Heinz Grehl (GREEN).

“You can build like that, but we don’t want it that way.” The members are particularly concerned about the parking situation along Gartenstrasse.

“Everyone knows that duplex garages are not accepted,” mentioned Rupert Pentenrieder (BfW).

“The drivers then park on the street and that can’t be right.”

According to the city clerk, he did not respond to the city's offer to meet with the developer for a discussion.

“We have a builder here who is getting the most out of it, but also future residents for whom we also have a responsibility to ensure their well-being,” said Brigitte Gronau (GREENS).

“It's a huge mess.

You simply can’t allow that here.”

The committee unanimously decided again against the planned project, issued a ban on changes and is now planning a new development plan for the area between Gartenstrasse, Eichtweide and Sommerstrasse and Moosstrasse on the east side.

This will be prepared as an urgent item for the next city council meeting.
