It has been almost two years since Gérald Darmanin interacted with the elected representatives of Corsica to work on their request for constitutional reform with a view to granting autonomous status to the island.
Two years during which antagonistic positions were often expressed within the Territorial Assembly of Corsica, to the point of casting doubt on their ability to come to an agreement around this project.
During the night from Monday to Tuesday, after a meeting lasting almost five hours at the Ministry of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin welcomed the end of the “Beauvau process”.
A mission which aimed to advance precisely these antagonistic positions “within the framework set by the President of the Republic”.
On September 28, Emmanuel Macron pleaded for Corsica to very officially enter the Constitution, to “recognize Corsican history, culture and specificities”.
He was not opposed to the recognition of autonomy, which would be “not against or without the State but for Corsica, in the Republic”.
