A farmer from the Cham district received a fine because he allegedly insulted three workers racially and sprayed them with manure.

Regensburg/Cham - A farmer from Neukirchen bei Heiligenblut (Cham district) recently received a penalty order of 90 daily rates for multiple insults and bodily harm at the request of the Regensburg public prosecutor's office.

The background is a rather unsavory attack on three fiber optic workers last summer.

What was not known until now: according to the public prosecutor's office, the crime was racially motivated.

“Word fight with insults”: then the manure sprayed

You couldn't read anything about this in the police press release from August 29, 2023.

On State Road 2154, in Neukirchen bei Heiligenblut, “a farmer and his agricultural team clashed with the fiber optic workers working there at the level of the tennis court,” it was said at the time.

“After a subsequent argument with insults, mutual physical injuries and property damage ensued, with the farmer spraying the workers with the manure tank.”

After their investigation, the Regensburg public prosecutor's office came to the conclusion that the crime had a racist background.

The three fiber optic workers come from Syria.

You work for a Thuringian company that has since contacted the petitions committee of the Bavarian state parliament about the incident.

Insulted as a “scumbag”: farmer attacks fiberglass workers

If you follow the descriptions of those affected and the findings of the public prosecutor's office, then on that Monday afternoon the farmer had to pass the construction site and the fiberglass workers' vehicles several times with his tractor and manure trailer.

They had just interrupted their work due to the weather.

One can only speculate as to whether the farmer felt motivated to “make his displeasure known about what he sees as inactive foreigners,” says the petition with which the boss of the three affected workers addressed the state parliament.

Although the farmer was able to pass through the construction site unhindered, he insulted the men from the tractor as “shitty foreigners” and “scumbags,” among other things.

He also asked her to leave the work area.

Manure attack on Syrian workers: insult, bodily harm, significant property damage

The petition goes on to say: "After the driver's 'threat' to call the police did not bring the desired result from his point of view, he opened the closure valve of the manure trailer and intentionally doused our employees and company vehicles with manure." The physical insult and bodily harm also caused considerable damage to the work vehicles.

The farmer, on the other hand, claims to have “unintentionally activated” the slurry tank controller.

But the public prosecutor's office did not believe this explanation and applied for the aforementioned penalty order in mid-February, which has since been issued by the responsible Cham district court.

The fiber optic worker's employer is “dismayed” by how the crime was handled

It is currently unclear whether the farmer will accept this penalty order.

With 90 daily rates, despite multiple insults and bodily harm, he would still remain just below a criminal record.

Meanwhile, the managing director of the Thuringian company where the three affected Syrians work expressed his dismay at the fact that the xenophobic motivation of the farmer spraying manure was not included in any press coverage.

Especially in Neukirchen bei Heiligenblut, other – false – stories seem to be doing the rounds.

Thuringian employer fears for the safety of his employees in the Cham region

The company is now worried about whether it can still guarantee the safety of its employees in the Cham area.

This was the first xenophobic incident in this region, the petition says.

As part of our duty of care as an employer, we now have “significant concerns as to whether the deployment of our foreign employees in the region in question is still responsible”.
