Freising is making final preparations for an event of the century.

It starts on Saturday.

Then the arrival of Korbinian 1300 years ago in the cathedral city is celebrated.

And how!

Freising

– Admittedly, it is almost impossible to give an overview of all the events that the city of Freising has organized in cooperation with the people here for the Korbinian Year.

As Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher said, it will also be impossible to attend all events.

The cultural program “Korbinian 2024” alone comprises 40 pages.

“It was very successful and extremely ambitious,” summarized Ingo Bartha.

the head of the tourism and culture department, summarized this point at the press conference for the anniversary year.

“Korbi” connects

But what is Freising actually celebrating from Saturday?

Mayor Eschenbacher had the answer to this question: It was not a city anniversary - Freising already existed: "We are celebrating the arrival of the diocese's patron and a special personality for the city, a person who helped found the European idea." And that already in the year 724.

Three protagonists would share the stage this year, said Eschenbacher: the city of Freising, the archdiocese and, thirdly, the House of Bavarian History, which will host the state exhibition from May to November with the theme “Tassilo, Korbinian and the Bear” to the Diocesan Museum.

History speaker Guido Hoyer, together with the chairman of the historical association, Günther Lehrmann, and city museum director Ulrike Götz, gave an overview of the history and the publications that - together with city archivist Florian Notter - are planned for 2024 (detailed report follows).

Cultural officer Susanne Günther then had the honor of going into more detail about the cultural events.

There are more than 50 individual events that the city of Freising can be proud of.

Or, as Günther said: “The bear will be in Freising in 2024”.

Festival beer, anniversary publication, anticipation: Karin Gürtner (l.) and Tobias Zollo (r.) from the Weihenstephan State Brewery are looking forward to it, as are (further from the left) head of the main office Rupert Widmann, festival speaker Anton Frankl, mayor Tobias Eschenbacher and head of the public order office Stefan Klopfer Starting signal on Saturday.

Partnership and festival speaker Anton Frankl looked after the partner communities of the city of Freising.

In keeping with the motto “Korbi connects” all ten communities are invited.

“Not all at once, that would be too impersonal,” says Frankl.

From April 20th, a friendly city will come to Freising to celebrate with the people of Freising at the weekly market, to present their products from the region and also their typical music.

Skofja Loka kicks off on April 20th.

“Accompanied by a photo exhibition in the atrium of the Sparkasse,” as head of the department Rupert Widmann explained.

This is an “exciting thing” with the intention that the people of Freising come into contact with people from the partner communities.

Also special: On the weekends when the friends are guests, Auxiliary Bishop Wolfgang Bischof will celebrate a Sunday service for the twin cities and communities.

The highlight of the festival year: the parade.

As of now, around 1,300 people will take part in more than 60 groups, as Stefan Klopfer, the head of the public order office, explained.

Frankl: “You can still register – anyone who still has a good idea can take part.” The Korbinian pageant will take place on Sunday, September 15th.

The participants come not only from Freising, but from the entire district.

Starting signal on the Dult

The anniversary starts on Saturday at 11 a.m.: Tobias Eschenbacher will open the festival year as part of the Palmdult and the Easter egg market.

Then the Weihenstephaner Korbinians beer will also be available for purchase.

According to master brewer Tobias Zollo, a naturally cloudy light beer with such a taste that “Saint Korbinian would be proud of it”.

The demand for the beer is very good, as Karin Gürtner from the Weihenstephan State Brewery said.

50 percent of the sales proceeds on Saturday will go to the community foundation.

And someone else was very generous: the CEO of Sparkasse Freising-Moosburg, Michael Langauer, came to the town hall to “support an anniversary that is second to none” - and with a more than generous amount: the cooperation partner left 50,000 euros of the anniversary year.

“We as a savings bank are proud to be able to support this wonderful festival,” said Langauer and presented the symbolic check.
