In front of an audience composed mainly of teachers from the schools of Naples, the prosecutor Nicola Gratteri recognizes the role of the school in combating crime and underlines its pedagogical value by calling into question the incorrect behavior of certain parents.
"School is fundamental - said the magistrate on the sidelines of the press conference on the project "Sport and culture to combat educational poverty and prevent crime" at the Municipality of Naples - because crime is attractive to children.
We need to be closer to the young people, we must not leave the kids alone, we must make them stronger".
"I agree with the fusion between school and family - he added - if the parents are normal people, but unfortunately from my knowledge of the school there are ignorant 55 year old parents who want to be 25 year olds and who neglect their children. They
know how to write today because there is T9 on the cell phone, but they interfere in the school when the child comes home sulking because he got a low grade. At that point they intervene to recover from the child the affection they have lost, but this is a mistake. The parents should instead leave the teachers do their job, they should only focus on the teachers' possible ignorance or pedophilia. If you, boy, have had a low grade, it is just an opportunity to strengthen yourself."
"Unfortunately - he explained - we place an enormous burden on the school, because there is much less family today than there was 30-40 years ago. Today we would need a better equipped and full-time school, better paid teachers and to do this we need to finance the schools because that is where we can take kids off the streets, given that many families are already absent or soon present."
