It's a real sensation: On sandstone that a man was digging up for his brother, he discovered a scaly trace - of a dinosaur.

Richelbach - Where the Frauenkirche, Kaiserburg and the Würzburg Residence stand today, different dinosaurs roamed around millions of years ago.

Yes, prehistoric monsters were also the dominant species in what is now the Free State around 66 million years ago.

That's why dinosaur tracks are found every now and then in Bavaria; last year, for example, there was a big find.

Now another clue has been presented to the public, reports BR.

That of an Arizonasaurus.

Curious story about dinosaur tracks on the Lower Main – but it remains a sensation

The story of the Arizonasaurus trail began 20 years ago.

At that time, a pigsty was built near Richelbach in the Miltenberg district, with several sandstones being brought to light.

The trace was discovered on one of these stones, but was initially stowed away.

The stone was presented to the public on the occasion of the Richelbach village anniversary, reports the BR.

There is currently a special exhibition in the Oldenburg Roman Museum for the dinosaur tracks in the sandstone.

Meanwhile, experts confirmed the authenticity of the remains, which are millions of years old.

And the experts are enthusiastic: According to BR, the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt and the Palaeontological State Collection in Munich have already reported interest in the find.

The Arizonasaurus

The “lizard from Arizona” belongs to the genus of basal archosaurs, writes

.

He lived around 240 million years ago - before the time when dinosaurs populated the entire earth (230 to 65 million years ago).

The Arizonasaurus was three meters long, weighed around 100 kilos and had a characteristic “sail” on its back.

The dinosaur would have reached about the belly button of an adult human.

The area around the border with Baden-Württemberg is known for the fact that traces of dinosaurs are often found there.

However, they are rarely as well preserved as in this case.

Obernburg, Senckenberg Museum or the State Paleontological Collection – who will ultimately be allowed to exhibit the traces is currently an open question.

In contrast to the neighboring federal state, where such finds belong to the state, in Bavaria the finder is allowed to keep them.

Therefore, the decision as to where the traces will be exhibited as a loan rests with the finder from Richelbach.
