In the end, the suspension arrived, following a decision by the Lazio regional school office, for the head teacher Riccardo Agresti, head of the Corrado Melone institute in Ladispoli, 40 km from Rome, for the case of one of his pupils aged just 6 year old suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who had been expelled from school for 21 days.
In his place the School Office has appointed a regent.
The measure against the little boy - taken by the school board and communicated to the family on 26 February via certified e-mail - followed some behavior considered by the school board to be "unsuitable for the school community" but was subsequently canceled by the TAR of Lazio.
The school, however, did not take him into account on March 1st, only to welcome him the following week, after the parents had turned to the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara. The minister, in turn, ordered an inspection which today led to the suspension of the school director.
In the sentence of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court there is an indication to give the child, being cared for at Gemelli, a support teacher for all the necessary hours.
Even last Friday, however, the student's stay at school lasted only 2 hours: "more hours of assistance are needed for the child but the medical certification is incorrect and we reported it to the parents. It was impossible to manage it and we had to call them", he had explained the head teacher, who was suspended today.
And who told ANSA today: "I will appeal to the labor judge - explained Agresti - it is clear that someone wants me out of school; what is happening is a strange and exaggerated fury. I was not aware of the fact of the decision of the TAR".
According to the Anief union, the rule that blocks the stabilization of teachers, after three years of correct procedure, "is inappropriate and must absolutely be changed because by adopting it we would discriminate against thousands of temporary workers just a step away from the role and would create further damage to our students disabled people: even cases like the one that happened in Ladispoli, if there is a shortage of staff, will only increase. Having tenured teachers in an institute is fundamental."
Last November, in Rende, in the province of Cosenza, an 8-year-old pupil, transferred to a new section of the third class of primary school, was left alone in a classroom following a protest organized by the parents of the other pupils.
Even in that case the child had a diagnosis of hyperactivity with above average intellectual functioning which however did not represent a requirement for the recognition of disability.
