However, the North Germans suffered a defeat in the final first leg of the CEV Cup.

Lüneburg - The SVG Lüneburg volleyball players lost the first leg of the final in the European Cup.

The Bundesliga team lost 3-0 (16:25, 17:25, 21:25) to the Polish top team Asseco Resovia Rzeszow on Tuesday evening in the LKH Arena in the Hanseatic city.

The second leg will take place next Tuesday in Rzeszow, southeastern Poland.

In front of 3,200 spectators in the sold-out home stadium, the North Germans never found their way to their game against the strong Poles.

Right from the start they were chasing a deficit and, under pressure, made many errors in their serve and attack.

Only in the third set did they temporarily put the opponent, who was full of international stars, under pressure with variable attack combinations.

In the semi-finals of the CEV Cup, the Lüneburgers managed to advance against Arkas Izmir with the most famous German player Georg Grozer after a defeat in the first leg in Turkey.

In their own hall, the North Germans won 3-1 and made it to the final in the golden set.

The CEV Cup is the second largest European club competition after the Champions League, comparable to the Europa League in football.

Before the season, the Lüneburg team qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their club history.

After a third place in the group phase, they were allowed to continue playing in the CEV Cup.
