The Minister of Economy was optimistic about the advance in prices. In addition, he put pressure on the provinces: "They do politics, don't imagine that they are dying for things to turn out well."

Minutes before the Consumer Price Index for February released by INDEC is released,

Luis Caputo

assured that

by mid-year inflation will be in the single digits.

In addition, he

put pressure on the governors

in the midst of negotiations with the Casa Rosada over Javier Milei's laws: "They do politics, don't imagine that they are dying for things to turn out well."

When asked if monthly inflation will be single digits by the middle of the year, Caputo was optimistic.

"Yes. The truth is that today if you look, even taking into account the March inflation, if you take out the drag of what has been the recomposition of relative prices to separate what is inflation, I mean by transportation, prepaid and so on,

we are already in that digit

," stated the Minister of Economy, before an audience of businessmen at the AmCham 2024 summit.

Then he got into the political issue of recent weeks: the negotiation of the governors with the Casa Rosada for the May Pact and the laws that, after the failure of the omnibus project, the Government will seek to approve in Congress.

"The law is for Argentines," Caputo emphasized.

He said that he seeks to get a foot out of businessmen's heads and pointed to the medium and long term, to "change the model at its roots."

He then referred to the "cultural battle, which burned people's brains."

He described it as "super important" that the law be passed.

"Some governors began to understand it, others not so much.

They all have their political bias,

naturally that's what they are," said the minister, with a sneer.

"You have to fight a little against that, against that political bias. You have to understand that on the other side,

I tell you with complete honesty, they are doing politics.

So,

don't imagine that on the other side they are dying for things to work out. Well,

then, let's be honest," the official continued.

He highlighted that "many have understood that it is important for them" and stressed that some provincial leaders understood that their warnings about the consequences of not approving the omnibus law (a greater adjustment to reach zero fiscal deficit) were not threats.

"I was not threatening anyone, it was obvious. If there are no more resources and we have to go to 0 deficit, there will be more expenditure adjustments," he asserted.
