“Here, see how heavy it is.
Back then, you had to run with your arm raised!
» exclaims Daniel Rebiffe, showing off the metal torch he has kept from his extraordinary experience.
At 99 years old, this native of Esson - he comes from Étampes -, now based in Amboise (Indre-et-Loire), is the last survivor of the French torchbearers of the Olympic torch from the London Olympic Games in 1948.
When he learned that the 2024 Olympics would be held in France, carrying the flame again became an obsession for him.
It's his dream, and now his fight.
“I said to myself:
I have to hold on until then.
I wanted the two torches to be able to be symbolically reunited,” confides the moved nonagenarian.
