Romanian justice on Tuesday gave the green light to the extradition to the United Kingdom of influencer Andrew Tate, suspected of sexual assault and rape, but only after the end of the legal proceedings initiated in Romania in another case .
In a judgment consulted by AFP, the Bucharest Court of Appeal
“orders the execution of the arrest warrant issued on January 19, 2024”
by a Westminster magistrate, while postponing this decision until
“the resolution of the case”
Romanian which could take years.
Sexual assaults
Tate and his brother Tristan were taken into custody last night over allegations of sexual assault dating back to 2012-2015, which they
“categorically”
deny , his public relations team said.
The arrest warrant was issued by Westminster Magistrates Court.
Tate, who gained millions of fans by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle, was indicted in June in Romania along with his brother and two Romanian women for human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to exploit women sexually.
They denied these accusations.
The case has since been before the pre-trial chamber of the Bucharest court, which must decide whether the trial can begin.
The decision has not yet been made, as the Romanian courts are clogged.
The Tate brothers were held in custody as part of the criminal investigation from late December 2022 until April, to prevent them from fleeing the country or tampering with evidence.
They were placed under house arrest until August.
Since then, they have been placed under judicial supervision, a lighter preventive measure which requires them to report regularly to the police but allows them to move freely, except to leave the country.
