This is a first in France according to customs officials, in terms of seizure of counterfeiting of the “Paris 2024 Olympic Games” brand.
On February 7, investigators from the National Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations (DNRED) checked the professional premises of a wholesaler in Aubervilliers specializing in the sale of various goods intended to supply markets and bazaars.
By carrying out their investigations, the agents then discovered 603 three-dimensional geometric puzzles and manual game consoles bearing representations of the Paris 2024 mascots as well as the inscription “The Phryges The Paris 2024 Mascots”.
These items were detained under the provisions of the intellectual property code, customs said in a press release dated March 11.
Customs seized more than 600 counterfeit Paris 2024 games from a wholesaler in Aubervilliers.
After confirmation by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (Cojo) that the goods were indeed counterfeit, “the rights holder and the holder of the goods gave their agreement for the simplified destruction of these toys,” adds customs.
Which will soon be achieved.
This seizure is part of the new 2024-2026 counterfeiting plan, which Thomas Cazenave, Minister for Public Accounts, presented on March 1.
The objective is to recall that customs is “on the front line in the fight against the distribution on the national territory of goods suspected of infringing the intellectual property rights linked to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games”.
To carry out effective operations, more than 1,200 customs agents were made aware by Cojo (
Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games
) of Paris 2024 products likely to be counterfeit.
In 2023, customs removed more than 20 million counterfeit items from the market, an exceptional and unprecedented result.
