Despite Chancellor Scholz's rejection of a Taurus delivery to Ukraine, the cruise missiles are apparently being made operational.
Berlin - Olaf Scholz has reiterated his rejection of the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine several times, most recently on Monday (March 11).
The Chancellor cited one of the reasons for their deployment being not possible without the participation of German soldiers.
“My clarity is there.
That is my job as Chancellor, as head of government, to express myself precisely and not to create any misleading expectations.
My answers are correspondingly clear,” said the SPD politician at a press conference in Berlin.
Parts of the opposition and even the traffic light coalition itself are beside themselves and do not want to accept the Chancellor's word of power.
But according to a media report, the federal government has now made a surprising decision.
Because the Taurus stocks are currently being modernized.
This is what the world
reports
.
Germany is said to have around 600 cruise missiles of this type, half of which are considered operational, while others have had their certification expired.
The latter should therefore now be completely overhauled.
The operational Taurus should also be revised.

What does this actually mean for a Taurus delivery to Kiev in the Ukraine war?
Probably not too much.
The presumed decision to modernize is unlikely to shake the Chancellor's authority.
He does not consider the use of the Taurus to be justifiable, “not even from outside Ukraine”.
That's why this question is "neither direct nor indirect," emphasized Scholz on Monday.
Die

assumes that the step still opens up options for the federal government.
For example, the cruise missiles could be delivered to Ukraine in the future without having to lose their own defense strength.
The possibility of exchanging rings is also not off the table.
Recently, such an approach was discussed with Great Britain, in which Great Britain would receive Taurus missiles from Bundeswehr stocks and in return could deliver similar Storm Shadow weapons to Ukraine.
The Greens are calling for at least an examination.
The CDU wants to have another vote in the Bundestag on Taurus delivery
The Union wants to submit another proposal for a vote in the Bundestag next Thursday (March 14th) to deliver the Taurus system to Ukraine.
There are signs that the Union proposal could also be supported by individual members of the FDP and Greens.
