NEWS LE PARISIEN. The government wants the bill on assisted dying to be submitted to a vote by MPs just before the European elections.

End of life but not end of controversies.

By announcing that the National Assembly would examine the end-of-life bill just before the European elections, in the week of May 27 and the week after, the executive angered the oppositions.

Marine Le Pen had the opportunity to explain what she thought of this calendar on Tuesday morning during the conference of presidents.

The double presidential finalist slammed her fist on the table, denouncing a “scandalous” calendar.

A witness relates to

Parisian - Today in France: “She considered that debating this subject at that time was political exploitation.

» Concretely, the debates will end just before the vote on June 9.

“She said that the use of this subject for electoral purposes was deplorable and that putting such an important subject just before the elections was symptomatic of a political vision which the government uses on all subjects,” adds another participant.

A risk of division within the RN group

The president of the MoDem group in the Assembly Jean-François Mattéi then intervened: “I don’t understand such irritation.

This is a subject that has been discussed for a long time, there was even a citizens' convention on the subject, it is the culmination of all that.

»

“Absolutely everything is done to do politics.

End of life, IVG, Ukraine: everything is done to be able to spit on us, rather than dealing with the problems of the French,” laments an executive from the RN group.

This is because, like other groups, Marine Le Pen's group risks being divided on an ethical subject which touches on the intimate and ethical convictions of each person.

“I am more for the end-of-life bill, but the timetable is so cynical that I will undoubtedly vote against it,” slips another RN deputy.

A president “not up to the challenges” for LR

The Republicans are not left out.

“The President of the Republic considers that the National Assembly is a stepping stone (…).

Ensuring that a debate of this type takes place at the same time as the European election is taking place and, consequently, a debate within the country on questions relating to Europe, we cannot what to wonder, added the vice-president of the LR group, Patrick Hetzel, during a press conference.

When we see a President of the Republic playing politics with issues of this type, we say to ourselves that indeed, President Macron is not up to the challenges, he is not occupying as he should make him wear the clothes of his function.

»

“He uses Parliament to swallow up the European elections and transform the debate during the official campaign, only on a single theme (…)”, also regretted LR deputy Pierre-Henri Dumont.
