At the end of the year, the Oberland Werkstätten laundry in Gaißach ceased operations after 30 years for economic reasons.

Gaißach – The non-profit company with its headquarters on Lenggrieser Straße has now submitted its plans for the conversion into a new, larger carpentry shop.

This is currently located in the main building.

Oberland Werkstätten Gaißach: new carpentry shop planned

The planned change of use naturally requires various modifications to the interior and exterior of the former laundry building in the Gaißacher Oberland workshops.

The most striking element is a so-called cantilever rack in front of the facade: this is a high rack with arms protruding on both sides on which bulky goods can be stored, in this case long beams and boards for woodworking.

The Gaißach local council approved the project with a few conditions – such as the design of 15 parking spaces.

Oberland Werkstätten Gaißach: Renovation should be completed by August

As department manager Matthias Schmidhuber from Oberland Werkstätten informed us when asked, the dismantling and the planned renovation should be completed by August.

“Then our approximately 28 employees in the woodworking department will move to the new rooms.” Buyers have already been found for all of the laundry’s technical equipment.

Schmidhuber assures us that nothing has to be disposed of, but instead can be used sensibly at home and abroad.

There will also be a new use for the freed-up rooms in the main building after appropriate renovation: “We are still developing ideas for the best possible use,” continued the department manager.
