Other districts in southern Bavaria will soon belong to the MVV area.

Citizens benefit from accession in many ways.

Munich – The days when MVV only covered local public transport in Munich and the surrounding area are long gone.

The MVV area now includes 14 districts or independent cities.

Ascending trend.

Another four districts will soon be added.

One of them is even in Lower Bavaria – a first.

Weilheim-Schongau district council unanimously approved joining the MVV

The decision to join the association was made in the Weilheim-Schongau district last November.

The local district council unanimously approved the project at the time.

Deputy District Administrator Wolfgang Taffertshofer called joining the MVV “one of the most important transport policy decisions” in the district.

The most important step has already been taken, now all that remains is to conclude the relevant contracts.

From 2025, Weilheim-Schongau will officially belong to the MVV area.

The same thing is being planned in the Landsberg am Lech district.

The district and mobility committees have already voted in favor of joining, and the district council will vote on March 19th.

Joining the MVV is also being discussed in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Landshut districts.

According to MVV managing director Bernd Rosenbusch, the calculations are currently still being made there: “The political decisions can therefore only be made towards the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025 for accession on January 1, 2026.”

Cheaper prices and only one ticket

If Landshut joins, it would be the first Lower Bavarian district in the MVV area.

“The MVV is structured in such a way that we are open to all partners and are not limited to districts or administrative districts,” explains Rosenbusch to our editorial team.

It is therefore not at all unlikely that the MVV area will expand to other districts in Lower Bavaria in the future.

According to Rosenbusch, a big advantage of joining MVV is easier access for citizens in the districts.

Because the uniform fare zone means that you often not only travel cheaper, but also only need one ticket.

And when customers use the MVV app, the information about the different lines and prices should also be better than before.
