Eurasburg: Gabi Gareis makes elaborate postcards - “It makes me feel happy”

Initially, Gareis borrowed the necessary equipment from her friend, including a punching machine.

The device can be used to cut paper into various patterns and shapes.

“For me, crafting is the ideal way to relax after work,” says the pharmaceutical technical assistant.

“That gives me feelings of happiness.”

It didn't take long before the Zumba instructor held her first homemade postcards in her hands.

From then on, all course participants always received a card for their birthday.

In December 2019, the Eurasburger went one step further: she sold her work, including cards and paper houses with Santa Clauses, for a day at an Advent market in the Beuerberg Monastery.

“The visitors were blown away.

I sold every piece." A satisfied smile flashes across Gareis' face. "I was totally amazed.

The fact that my things are so well received still leaves me speechless today.”

Then Corona came, “and I had a lot more time for crafting.”

Money is thrown into a cash register on the side and you can get the product you want from a box next to it.

Postcard maker Gabi Gareis also produces to order - “I won’t get rich from it”

“I won’t get rich from it.” But that’s not what the Eurasburger is interested in either.

“People are happy about it.

For me, that’s the beauty of it.” The 58-year-old also produces to order.

For a gift of money for a trip to Italy, she made a suitcase out of paper in a suitable setting.

“As soon as I receive an order, my brain starts chattering and the first ideas come to me.”

But what exactly makes their stuff so popular?

“I think people feel that every piece is a piece of their heart.” That's exactly why Gareis isn't thinking about turning her hobby into her main job.

“In order to make a living from it, I would have to produce piecework.

At some point it’s no longer fun.”
