Police officers had their photo taken with him at Marienplatz.
A 22-year-old comic fan roams through Munich in a Batman costume.
Munich – “I would say that security is my big topic,” says Felix H.* The 22-year-old works for a security company in Munich and is deployed at folk festivals, among other things.
After work, H. continues to keep his eyes open.
The 22-year-old walks the streets of Munich in the costume of the American superhero Batman – at least twice a month.
He doesn't see himself as a moral guardian, he's more likely to stroll around than patrol.
“I have always been a big Batman supporter,” reports the comic fan in a recent conversation with our editorial team.
Many years ago he attended a costume ball in a “cheap outfit” and still got his first selfie request: “Hey Batman, would you like a photo?” H. had tasted blood and from then on approached the whole thing a little more professionally.
In 2020, the young man, who would rather not show his true face, began going on “patrol” in a handmade and detailed costume.
First in his hometown of Kempten.
Out and about in Munich with a Batman costume: 22-year-old describes his experiences
“I became known very quickly in Munich and was accepted right from the start,” reports the 22-year-old.
H. has been living on the Isar since June 2023.
On his tours he concentrates on the city center.
“Isartor, Stachus, Marienplatz, the corner.” Passers-by occasionally react irritated to his outfit, and stupid sayings are rare.
“They bounce off my costume.”
A few days ago, the after-work Batman met a police patrol at Marienplatz.
“They were very nice.
First they asked me for my ID, but that was just a joke.” The 22-year-old then posed with the officers for a group photo.
His meetings with the police were not always so harmonious.
Great effort was triggered during a tour: “I was in awe”
The 21-year-old was called up in May 2023 after a passer-by sensed a threat.
“Suddenly there were emergency services with submachine guns in front of me, and I was in awe,” said the security employee, looking back at the operation in Kempten.
A toy gun that he carried with him during a tour caused the whole fuss.
The 22-year-old now prefers to leave them alone.
What would he do if he encountered a threatening situation during his excursions?
“Intervene yourself or call the police,” says the 22-year-old.
How often he goes out in the superhero costume in the coming months also depends on his physical condition.
“I work shifts, it’s exhausting.”
