The state government is burying the plans for a tram through the English Garden.
In the Munich town hall, the reactions to this are quite different.
Munich - The end of the tram through the English Garden as part of the northern tangent is causing trouble in Munich City Hall.
As reported, the state government had withdrawn its approval for the project because the new route would be much wider than originally thought.
Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) is angry, the Free State was ultimately involved in the planning process and would have had enough time to show its colors for years.
“That would have been sincere and would have freed up urgently needed human resources for other projects and saved immense planning costs.”

“The decision shows once again that Markus Söder is only concerned with harassment and no longer with constructive cooperation.” It is disappointing that the CSU is reneging on the promise made by Prime Minister Seehofer and doing party politics at the expense of the people of Munich, adds the SPD. Green Party leader Mona Fuchs said: “This ban is a setback for the traffic turnaround in Munich.” Her party submitted an urgent motion on Wednesday asking the state parliament to overturn Söder’s ban.
Of course, the father of the country receives support from within his own ranks.
“Green-Red is experiencing one tram trauma after another,” says CSU boss Manuel Pretzl.
“After the planning disaster in Johanneskirchen, the central part of the northern tangent has now also failed.” As reported, the government of Upper Bavaria had put the preparatory work for the Johanneskirchen section on hold because the route has not yet been finally approved.
CSU city councilor Veronika Mirlach said: “The amateurish Stückel planning must come to an end.” Her group therefore requested an immediate stop to the project and new planning on Wednesday.

The FDP also wants that: “It was reckless to stubbornly stick to the desired solution and not consider alternatives,” says city councilor Fritz Roth.
Now the variant with a tunnel should be back on the scene.
The garden tram has been controversial for a long time, even veteran elected officials are still concerned about it.
Former FDP minister Wolfgang Heubisch told our editorial team: “I have been against the monster tram for many years.
