Highlights: 40-ton colossus “threaded” from a lofty height into the UPM building in Schongau. As planned, they lifted the gigantic system component for the new heat recovery of the TMP system over the roof into the building. The next exciting task awaits him and his team this Wednesday: a 20 meter long chimney will be lifted onto the second system. Compared to today's caliber, the four-ton piece is somewhat lightweight. It still has to be raised to 60 meters because of its height.

After several hours and a lot of fine work: the so-called reboiler for heat recovery at UPM in Schongau is ready.

Schongau

– Two heavy-duty cranes were in use on the UPM factory premises in Schongau for several hours yesterday.

As planned, they lifted the gigantic system component for the new heat recovery of the TMP system (we reported) over the roof into the building.

Real weight was moved: the new so-called reboiler, which was delivered from Sweden on Monday night by heavy-duty transport, weighs 40 tons.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

The starting signal is given at 8 a.m.: the belts are loosened and the 24-meter-high frame is erected.

The system part rises into the sky like a rocket shortly before 10 a.m. in the morning.

Now comes the exciting part: The reboiler is lifted to dizzying heights by the crane and then has to be threaded into the building via the narrow opening in the roof.

Centimeter work for the crane operators

Relief at 10:30 a.m.: The part is where it should be, roughly speaking.

“But we struggled when it came to lifting it,” admits project manager Georg Goldbrunner.

When merging you are close to the stair tower.

What follows is the “fine-tuning” over the midday hours; centimeter work is required.

The four feet must fit precisely into the brackets in the concrete base.

There are 16 screws that need to be fastened so that everything fits perfectly.

The good news comes in the early afternoon: “It’s done.

“It’s where it’s supposed to be and it’s whole,” Goldbrunner grins.

It still has to be raised to 60 meters because of its height.

And with this, another big step towards the renewal of the entire facility has been taken.
