The playground at the Schwabbruck-Schwabsoien elementary school currently looks rather sad.

But that could change soon.

Parents and children are involved in the redesign plans.

Schwabsoien – The children at Schwabbruck-Schwabsoien elementary school have many creative ideas about what their “dream playground” would look like.

They had already made models of all sorts of play equipment using everyday materials - climbing walls, bridges, teepees and towers, for example.

Robert Schmidt-Ruiu from the company “design together” looked at these designs very closely and, based on the many wishes, came up with a plan that could be turned into reality.

And because the redesign is intended as a community project in which children and parents are always involved, they were all invited to the presentation at the elementary school.

Schwabbruck-Schwabsoien elementary school: Children contribute ideas for redesigning the school yard

The school yard, a largely empty area, has been a nuisance at school for a long time, says Christian Winter from the parents' council.

When considering what was financially feasible, we came to the conclusion that as much as possible should be built in-house.

The parents will probably grab a drill, saw and hammer themselves - guided by Schmidt-Ruiu and his colleagues, who specialize in this concept for school yards, kindergartens and playgrounds.

He is not only a craftsman, but also an educator.

His company in Olching now has ten employees, he briefly introduced himself.

Dividing the area into different areas is important.

But you are not completely free: the large paved area has to remain because of the fire department, explained Schmidt-Ruiu.

Existing plants on the edge of the paved area also have to remain because of the drainage underneath - but could be supplemented with boulders and trunks on which you can sit, balance or simply put your lunch down, he suggested.

It is still unclear when implementation will begin

A lot of things would only come about gradually.

He emphasized that his draft was only intended as a guide.

There should also be a discussion with the community about what can be implemented and how.

This was also important to Mayor Manfred Schmid, who also listened to the remarks with his counterpart from Schwabbruck, Norbert Essich.

In order for the communities to be able to participate in the project, a concrete plan and a cost breakdown are necessary, says Schmid.

It is therefore not yet clear when implementation will begin.

When asked by the local newspaper, Mayor Schmid said that he did not want to speculate at the moment about the type and time of implementation.

In his design, Schmidt-Ruiu planned a green area with easy-care shrubs between the paved area and the current meadow.

“But make sure there are no spikes on it,” a girl told the planner as an important tip.

There could also be a nest in the shape of a coconut

He would receive a tree that the children currently like to climb.

Schmidt-Ruiu also had regulations in mind that it was a great challenge and also allowed under the norms.

Because the meadow quickly turns into mud when it rains, it cannot be played on permanently.

The playground equipment manufacturer would instead use bark mulch or chopped wood.

Several game elements could be placed on it, connected to each other by ropes, trunks and platforms.

Some children had also built this in their models.

There could also be a small nest, like the one made in the shape of a coconut: a low-hanging swing.

A place to retreat could also be under a tower, for example.

At the top, according to one girl's idea, there should be space for insect figures.

She made a bee.

Instead of one slide - there probably isn't enough space for that - there could be three slide bars next to each other.

A child also had this idea.

And climbing walls are also conceivable.

Support

: In addition to the active commitment of parents, financial support is also needed to implement the schoolyard redesign.
