Since “the skaters on Lake Enghien”, immortalized in 1901, Val-d'Oise and cinema have formed a true love story.
Nearly 1,800 filmings took place in the department.

Here is our selection, with one film per decade since the official creation of the department in 1968.
“The Pasha” (1968).
In this classic gangster film, shot in particular at the disused Villeron sugar factory, the main role is played by Jean Gabin.
The local native, who grew up in Mériel, shot no less than thirteen films in the four corners of Val-d'Oise, from Argenteuil ("Le jardinier d'Argenteuil", 1966) to Sarcelles ("Mélodie en sous") -sol”, 1963), passing through L’Isle-Adam (“Rue des Prairies”, 1959).

“The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob” (1973).
Louis de Funès who falls into a vat of green chewing gum paste… This cult scene from the French comedy was filmed in Goussainville.
Final collaboration between Gérard Oury and one of Funès then at the top, this monument also includes several scenes filmed in Avernes, Aincourt or Frémainville.
“Itinerary of a spoiled child” (1988).
“Never look surprised”… Jean-Paul Belmondo, awarded a César for best actor for his role, gives a real life lesson to Richard Anconina.
For this other cult moment of the seventh art, Claude Lelouch set up his camera at the Bel-Air hotel, in Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, along the Nationale 1.
“The Ninth Gate” (1998).
Several Hollywood stars have also filmed in the department.
With Johnny Depp in particular, filmed by Roman Polanski in Pontoise in this fantastic thriller.
In 2006, Ron Howard came to Condécourt to film Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou and Jean Reno in Da Vinci Code, which will open the Cannes Film Festival.
“Birth of octopuses” (2007).
Henri Verneuil (“I like Icare”, 1979) or Éric Rohmer (“l'Ami de mon amis”, 1987) had already immortalized the new town of Cergy-Pontoise, but Céline Sciamma, the child of Cergy, necessarily wears a special look.
She filmed her first film there “Naissance des pieuvres”, Louis-Delluc Prize for first feature film, and returned there in 2021 for “Petite Maman”.

After “Tiger Brigades” (2006), and before “Goodbye Up there” (2017), Roschdy Zem chooses the village to tell the life of the clown Chocolat, played by Omar Sy.

The development of streaming platforms offers even greater visibility.
Certain scenes from “Aka”, the most watched French film in the history of Netflix, were filmed in the quarries of Auvers-sur-Oise.
