Chancellor Olaf Scholz is still against the delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine and is receiving strong criticism from the Union - does his stance support Russia?
Munich - With a vote in the Bundestag, the CDU/CSU parties want to once again call on the federal government to approve the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
The Chancellor in particular is being criticized by the CDU and CSU in the debate.
In the ZDF program
Markus Lanz
, CSU General Secretary explained that Olaf Scholz (SPD) was using “Putin’s narrative”.
“No” from Scholz to the Taurus delivery is intended to show mistrust of Ukraine – and strengthen Putin
“We are calling on the federal government to deliver Taurus,” Huber replied to the relevant question from moderator Lanz.
The “main problem” at the moment is “a chancellor who serves Putin’s narrative,” Huber continued.
With his negative stance against the delivery of Taurus missiles, Scholz expresses his distrust in Ukraine to handle the weapons responsibly.

Huber is not alone in the Union with this attitude.
CDU politician Roderich Kiesewetter told
IPPEN.MEDIA that Scholz was strengthening Russia with his attitude.
When the Chancellor talks about Germany becoming an indirect war party through the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles, Vladimir Putin gets the impression that “Russian disinformation and nuclear fear-mongering” is at work.
“In doing so, Scholz is undermining European deterrence against Russia,” said Kiesewetter.
Huber hopes for support from the traffic lights in the Taurus vote
Huber himself believes it is unlikely that the Union parties will persuade the Chancellor to change his mind with their renewed request for Taurus delivery.
Nevertheless, he hopes that members of the traffic light coalition will speak out in favor of the delivery.
“Then there must be a lot of people from the traffic light coalition who vote with us,” said Huber.
In fact, in a partly emotional questioning in the Bundestag on Wednesday, Scholz once again reiterated his rejection of a Taurus delivery to Ukraine.
However, the desire for support from the government is not entirely unreasonable.
FDP Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki said in an interview with the
Münchner Merkur
that he would support the Union's proposal.
“And I am also sure that this time more MPs will vote to deliver Taurus to Ukraine,” Kubicki noted.

Majority in Germany against Taurus delivery - including supporters of the Union parties
Although the Union's application for the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles could meet with approval in the Bundestag, a different picture is emerging among the German population.
According to a current ZDF
political barometer
, almost 60 percent of Germans are against the arms delivery.
Among the supporters of the Union parties, 47 percent are against and 45 percent are in favor of providing the Taurus systems.
