Highlights: Demolition party with graffiti fundraiser: This is how the old outdoor swimming pool is supposed to be said goodbye. The city now has an estimated 2.7 million euros in grants available through a new funding program to be able to realize the 5.475 million euro project. Miesbach could have started the measure at the beginning of 2020, but left the decision to the new city council, which lacked the necessary money as a result of this delay. Some clubs also want to support the support association.

The renovation is to be celebrated with a demolition party in the empty swimming pool in the summer.

But first the city council must give the green light.

According to its chairman Bernhard Heidl, the 21st general meeting of the Warmbad Miesbach Association was the best of all.

Miesbach - 60 participants, including all three mayors Gerhard Braunmiller, Astrid Güldner and Franz Mayer as well as some city council members and “the best atmosphere” since the club was founded in 2003. No wonder, because the renovation of the pool, which has been a painstaking effort for years, is now within reach (we reported).

The only remaining hurdle is the city council, which is expected to give the green light at its meeting on Thursday, March 21st.

It begins at 5 p.m. in the town hall meeting room.

Some ideas up my sleeve

At the support association, which has around 380 members, the thought games went a step further on Tuesday evening.

“We are planning a demolition party together in the summer in the empty swimming pool to say goodbye to the old pool,” reports Heidl.

“It should be a colorful program.” A special fundraising campaign is also planned.

Children, sprayers and artists should be able to realize themselves on the previously indestructible film.

The motifs should then be sold.

The ideas from cashier Nadine Hupfauer and Franz Simbeck were well received by those present.

Some clubs also want to support the support association.

The money gained will go towards the new warm outdoor pool, as Heidl explains.

Because planned components of the pool such as the new children's area and the wide slide are not covered by state funding (we reported).

This leaves 900,000 euros without a subsidy - costs that the city would have to bear, but which should be managed differently in view of the tense budget situation.

“We want to help here with donations and sponsors,” says Heidl.

“Many things are imaginable.”

Without Heidl's petition, there would be no bathroom renovation - in many municipalities in Bavaria

The city council's bathroom officer, Erhard Pohl, emphasizes that it is ultimately thanks to Heidl that the renovation and conversion actually comes to fruition: “Without his petition, there would have been no funding.

And without funding, the renovation would not be possible for the city.”

As reported, Heidl started an online petition for the support association in August 2017.

As a result of these 1,094 signatures, a previously non-existent grant program was launched in July 2019 with the support of State Parliament President Ilse Aigner for municipal outdoor pools in need of renovation in the Free State.

Miesbach could have started the measure at the beginning of 2020, but left the decision at the beginning of the year to the new city council, which lacked the necessary money as a result of this delay.

Good funding conditions for Miesbach

The city now has an estimated 2.7 million euros in grants available through a new funding program to be able to realize the 5.475 million euro project.

Pohl, who has been fighting for the renovation in the city council for 20 years, was also actively involved in the re-establishment of the support association in 2003.

“There were already discussions in 2002 that the bathroom was too expensive and whether it was even needed,” he reports.

That's why members of the water rescue service founded the association to give lasting emphasis to the cause - with success, even after two decades.

“Stubbornness pays off,” says Pohl.

The pool and the support association are closely linked

Heidl also showed that the pool and the support association are closely linked when looking at the history of the warm pool.

Because in 1886 it was the first support association that initiated the founding of the pool.

It was not until 1932 that the pool became the property of the city.

If everything goes according to plan, the demolition party could take place during the summer holidays.

The reopening is planned for summer 2025.

However, the prerequisite is that the city council approves the draft budget for 2024 and thus the bathroom renovation next week.
