"The events of October 7 should change many perceptions and rethink them."

This is what the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Moshe Bar Siman Tov, said today (Wednesday), at a conference on the policy and management of the wartime trauma system of the National Institute for Health Policy Research held at the Israel Yaffe Conference Center in Tel Aviv. Bar Siman Tov also admitted that there are differences in the levels of the medical service provided for citizens living in the center versus the periphery.

"I know that the tasks we have undertaken to upgrade the capabilities of the hospitals near the border are tasks for years. If we are committed we will succeed," added the CEO. "The events we are experiencing now are not a security episode that will pass, but our working assumption is that this is a significant change Israel's security situation and this requires a profound change.

The war and the events revealed many strengths of the health system and pride, and alongside them revealed weaknesses and brokenness such as mental health and we need to act and fix this."

Bar Siman Tov admitted that as of today, the medical service and the level differences between the residents of the center and the periphery are far from satisfactory. "The level we provide in the medical service In the periphery it is not good enough and sometimes people do not receive treatment at all.

We will not accept the existing gaps in the current health system and we will open new services.

I talk to the people who were displaced and evacuated from the south and the north, they talk in amazement about the quality of service in the center of the country and some of them are not ready to go back to what was before.

There is more than a grain of truth in this and there are gaps."

He also emphasized in his words that people give up on rehabilitation activities because they did not have toilets near the house. According to him, this is also the reason to open rehabilitation services at Furia Hospital in Tiberias and Ziv in Safed and to strengthen the hospitals.

Prof. Nachman Ash/Avichai Haim, no

Also speaking at the same conference was the former CEO, Prof. Nachman Ash, who currently serves as chairman of the National Institute's executive committee and head of the inspection committee for control and quality to examine the events of October 7 on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

Ash announced at the conference that the committee is in advanced stages of work and that its conclusions will be submitted in the coming weeks.

"The Hamas attack is a huge test for the trauma system and we stand by it with respect, but we will always be asked how it can be improved," Ash said.
