The situation in Crimea is devastating for Russia.
The losses there are enormous.
There is no end in sight to the Ukrainian attacks.
Sevastopol – The situation around Crimea is turning into a disaster for Vladimir Putin.
Russia's losses in combat ships and soldiers are enormous, and the Black Sea Fleet is almost constantly under fire.
Because of the danger, the Russian Navy's combat units have now largely withdrawn from the occupied peninsula.
In fact, Ukraine has recently succeeded more and more often in inflicting severe blows on the Black Sea Fleet.
According to their own statements, the Ukrainian armed forces managed to sink the heavy Russian patrol boat “Sergei Kotov” and the large landing ship “Zesar Kunikov” in February and March.
However, Russia has not yet officially confirmed this information.
Losses for Russia: Putin's Black Sea Fleet lost these ships in the Ukraine War
The Black Sea Fleet has been taking part in hostilities since February 2022.
To this end, Russia has reinforced them in advance from the Baltic Fleet, mainly with landing ships.
The Black Sea Fleet was therefore a declared goal for Ukraine from the beginning of the war.
Their attacks with missiles and naval drones were often extremely successful, as a look at the list of the most important losses of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the Ukraine War shows:

Vladimir Putin's Black Sea Fleet in the Ukraine War is under heavy fire
Even more spectacular than all these losses was Ukraine's missile attack on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopol in September 2023. At the time, Ukraine reported that 34 high-ranking officers attending a meeting of the Russian naval leadership were killed, including Viktor Sokolov.
The Russian Defense Ministry later released a video recording that allegedly showed Sokolov alive.

The difficult situation also explains why President Putin and the Russian military apparently replaced a commander twice within a short period of time in the middle of the Ukraine war.
Sokolov, who was believed to be dead, is said to have been dismissed as commander of the Black Sea Fleet and replaced by Sergei Pinchuk.
Shortly afterwards, Nikolai Yevmenov, the commander of the Russian Navy, was caught.
The admiral was retired and replaced by Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, the previous commander of the Northern Fleet.
Ukraine steps up attacks on Putin's Black Sea fleet around Crimea
At the beginning of March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the successes of his armed forces in the fight against the Russian warships of the Black Sea Fleet.
“Ukraine has proven what we are capable of, what we can achieve,” said the head of state in a video speech.
“There are no longer any safe havens for Russian terrorists in the Black Sea, and there never will be any again.”
