Driving under the influence of cocaine.
With this accusation, a Colombian priest, Don Daniel Arturo Cardenas, parish priest in Rivisondoli (L'Aquila), was reported by the traffic police to the Sulmona prosecutor's office after a road accident.
The man, already under investigation for another accident, had his driving license revoked.
The parish priest was returning to Alto Sangro after a dinner he had attended in Pratola Peligna when, near the Santa Brigida area,
he went off the road with his car
, a Toyota, ending up against the guardrail.
Immediately helped by passers-by and other motorists, he was transported by ambulance to Sulmona hospital where doctors applied three stitches to his head.
Here, following the tests carried out as a matter of practice, the positivity to cocaine was discovered.
A high value, equal to one thousand, which pushed the traffic police officers to report the priest and withdraw his license.
The notification of the document was entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Castel di Sangro company who were unable to trace the prelate.
The priest in fact went to the hospital in Chieti to undergo some routine tests, as confirmed by the person concerned.
"I have often felt alone and little understood. My image cannot be tarnished by a simple accident. Let silence descend on the matter"
, said Don Daniel who in the next few days will be summoned by the diocesan bishop, Monsignor Michele Fusco, who in the meantime brought together the college of consultants to decide on the adoption of any measures.
"The bishop and the priests of the diocese of Sulmona-Valva, sorry for the accident that happened to Don Daniel Arturo Cardenas, are close to him, accompany him with prayer in this particular moment, express closeness to the parish community and follow the situation carefully" , we read in a note from the Sulmona diocese.
Last year the priest was involved in another car accident and left after the crash
, justifying himself to the police by saying that, having to celebrate mass, he could not wait for the tests.
He had already been under investigation at the time.
