Fischbachau

– Rehearsals before concerts are nothing special for the Fischbachau band.

This year they were a lot more professional and intense.

Five lecturers worked with the individual registers of brass music to further develop them musically.

Before the result at the Josefi concert on Friday and Saturday, 15/16.

March, which can be heard publicly for the first time from 8 p.m. (tickets on sale in advance at the tourist information office and at the box office), chairman Georg Gasteiger (47) explains how the idea for the workshops came about.

Mr. Gasteiger, a brass band taking music lessons before the concert: That almost sounds like detention...

Georg Gasteiger:

(laughs)

It was exactly the opposite: a big boost for our musicians' motivation and joy of playing.

I play the trombone myself and haven't had a teacher for 30 years.

Then you notice how many little imperfections creep in - and how the motivation to work on them fades away a bit.

And now she was woken up again?

Georg Gasteiger:

Definitely yes.

It's impressive how much you can achieve with the right learning techniques.

With continuous practice - ideally every day - relatively short sessions are often enough to feel a positive effect.

How did the professional coaching go?

Georg Gasteiger:

Each of our seven registers - tenor/baritone, trumpet/flugelhorn, trombone, tuba, F horn, clarinet and drums - was allowed to book five two-hour workshop appointments with one of the five lecturers.

Some people also saved something for after the Josefi concert.

The goal is sustainable development.

How did you get to know the experts?

Georg Gasteiger:

About the contacts of our own musicians.

There are also some people who have what it takes to be a lecturer.

But it's a bit easier to accept tips from outsiders.

How does coaching work in practice?

Can your people now play pieces that they wouldn't have dared to try before?

Georg Gasteiger:

We don't really want to change the repertoire.

For us it's more about developing the musical quality.

The effects of the increased joy of playing were clearly felt during the rehearsals for the concert.

The intonation has improved in the registers, which can also be heard when the entire ensemble plays together.

How did you actually come up with the idea for the workshops?

Georg Gasteiger:

We've wanted to do this for a while, but somehow there was always too much going on.

Last year we were also very challenged with numerous appearances at various festivals.

This year it worked out well at the beginning of the year because it's still quiet there anyway.

In this context, I would also like to once again mention the financial support from our loyal donors and the paying visitors to our concerts.

Without them we certainly wouldn't have been able to afford such professionals.

At the Josefi concert we want to thank you musically.
