A hotelier from Vence launched this initiative, followed by other establishments, to allow families in the municipalities of Pas-de-Calais affected by the recent floods to clear their minds.

Families affected by the floods in Pas-de-Calais will be able to clear their minds in the Nice hinterland at the invitation of hoteliers from Vence (Alpes-Maritimes), who have decided to offer one-week stays.

The initiative came from Laurence Thiébaut, an environmental activist who runs a lodge in Vence, a town of 19,000 inhabitants in the heights, northwest of Nice, itself affected by a flood in the 1980s.

“I organized a collection for the victims of

storm Alex

(in the fall of 2020).

There, they

(the victims, Editor's note)

are far away.

And yet we can be a little united, because we are not close to seeing the end of these episodes

,” she explained to AFP.

Another lodge, two hotels and a large campsite responded to his call to offer the town of Blendecques (Pas-de-Calais) around ten stays in total, in a room, lodge or mobile home and around ten pitches of camping.

The dates will often be of your choice, provided you avoid July and August, which are already full.

“Very nice gesture”

“It’s a very nice gesture of solidarity.

We were surprised to have an offer that came from so far away

,” commented Vincent Maquignon, deputy mayor and himself flooded three times by the Aa river since November.

The Blendecques town hall has started collecting applications from the 800 households affected in the town.

A draw is planned for Friday to designate the beneficiaries.

And the number of stays could increase: the canvassing of structures is not finished and others have offered since the local daily

Nice Matin

mentioned the initiative.

People have also offered to contribute to transport costs and the town of Vence plans to launch a fundraiser.
